Claws of Awaji is the first major story expansion for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, arriving on September 16, 2025. Ubisoft describes it as a continuation of the journey, taking players to a brand-new location – the island of Awaji, a land filled with hidden dangers and political intrigue.

This expansion delivers over 10 hours of additional gameplay. It is designed to be experienced after completing the main campaign, so the story picks up once Naoe and Yasuke have already proven themselves as central figures in Japan’s turbulent Sengoku era. On Awaji, they will confront a powerful new enemy faction known as the Sanzoku Ippa, a ruthless bandit clan that threatens local stability.

Players can expect new main and side quests, extended exploration opportunities, and an expanded arsenal. One of the highlights is the introduction of a completely new weapon type – the bō staff – giving fresh combat options and encouraging different playstyles.

Ubisoft has also confirmed an important detail about access: anyone who pre-ordered any edition of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will receive Claws of Awaji for free on release day. For all other players, the expansion will be available as a paid download. Unlike past titles, there is no season pass — this is the only planned major expansion.
