In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, feudal Japan is full of complex alliances, hidden motives and morally complex decisions. One of the more engaging side stories in the Pirate Alliance questline – which challenges players to track down and confront rogue pirates scattered throughout Wakasa and Tamba regions – makes every encounter meaningful and personal.

But this questline goes beyond simply bounty hunting; with hidden treasures, powerful weapons and recruitable allies at stake on each side of every decision that needs to be made, your decisions carry weight.

This guide will show you how to start your quest, where each pirate can be found, what their consequences will be and which rewards are worth fighting for. No matter whether you play as Naoe or Yasuke, this will be invaluable when embarking on one of the game’s most fulfilling side arcs.

How to Start the Quest Pirate Alliance

The Pirate Alliance is a side quest available in the Wakasa region. To initiate the quest:

Visit Tsuruga: Head to the Tsuruga Sea Port in the Sotomo Gate area of Wakasa

Speak with Shido the Biwa Master: You’ll find Shido near the port. Engaging with him will unlock the Pirate Alliance questline.

Access the Quest Board: After speaking with Shido, the Pirate Alliance objectives will appear in your quest log.

Objectives: Eliminate Pirate Alliance Members

The Pirate Alliance consists of five key members that you must locate and deal with:

Kage

  • Location: Aboard a ship moored southwest of Obama in the Wakasa region.
  • Approach: Use a boat to reach the ship. Expect heavy resistance; a direct combat approach is recommended.

Lopo Cruz

  • Location: On a secluded island north of the Shattered Coast, near Nariu’s Lair.
  • Approach: Navigate by boat to the island. Be prepared for a fight upon arrival.

Little Kappa

  • Location: Within Maizuru’s Lair in the central Shattered Coast area.
  • Approach: Utilize stealth tactics to infiltrate the lair. Explosive barrels can be used strategically against Little Kappa.

Sen

  • Location: In Yura Fishing Village, located in the Fukuchiyama area of northern Tamba.
  • Approach: Sen is a repentant pirate turned fisherman. You have the choice to spare or kill him. Sparing him reflects mercy but forgoes a specific weapon reward.

Oni-Yuri

  • Unlock Requirement: Complete the side quest “Sweet Lies”, which becomes available after progressing through the main storyline.
  • Location: Details become available upon completing the prerequisite quest.
  • Approach: Upon confrontation, you can choose to recruit Oni-Yuri as an ally or eliminate her.

Choices and Consequences

Sparing Sen: Demonstrates compassion but results in missing out on the Seafarer’s Chains weapon reward.

Recruiting Oni-Yuri: Completing “Sweet Lies” and choosing to recruit her adds a valuable ally with unique poison-based abilities to your team.
